You can always return a game purchased on steam, provided you did not play it for more than 2 hours, or owned it for more than 2 weeks. However, are you looking for more of an arcade simulator, or one that can bring as much realism as possible? FSX can do both, but to get the latter you need plenty of addons which can bring instability to the game as well since it's 32bit.

How well it runs would likely be dependent upon the PC and for newer editions of Windows and better resourced PCs, its performance and play experience probably wouldn't reflect it.
That's something I'm glad to see Laminar Research is avoiding with the X-Plane 11 demo - it's recompiled with the same changes as the main sim whenever they're implemented.
I guess the bottom line questions are: A is there a decent free version available, that is truly free with no subscriptions?
